Finnan's Gift to the Cardiology Department
Finnan's Gift is a fundraising appeal set up by Alisa and Oliver Camplin-Warner. Launched in May 2011, Finnan's Gift raises vital funds for the Cardiology Department at The Royal Children's Hospital.
A message from Alisa and Oliver
On the 10th March 2011, Finnan Maximus Camplin-Warner was prematurely brought into the world because 'something was wrong' with his heart – Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).
Ten days later, our beautiful baby boy became an angel in heaven after enduring six open heart surgeries.
Finnan’s doctors at The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne said he lived up to his gladiatorial name and was truly heroic.
To honour our courageous son and to ensure other little babies and their families don’t endure the pain we have, the Finnan’s Gift Appeal has been set up.
Launched in May 2011, Finnan's Gift raised much-needed funds for a state-of-the-art echocardiology scanning machine for the cardiology department at The Royal Children's Hospital. The cost of the machine is approximately $300,000 and by July 2011, $200,000 had been donated to Finnan’s Gift by thousands of exceptionally kind hearted people.
Still short of our target, the Collingwood Football Club together with the Victorian Institute of Sport, Victorian Olympic Council and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, joined the Finnan’s Gift Appeal in the lead-up to the Collingwood v Essendon football match on July 31st, to help raise more money. Players, athletes, footy fans, management, CEOs and Presidents all generously came together to help increase awareness of CHD and raised a whopping $116,254!
It's also very important that we thank the many other generous contributors to Finnan’s Gift, including:
- The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation
- Colleagues, friends and family and over 2000 individual donors
- Pratt Foundation
- Glenn Archer and HeartKids Victoria
- Chain Reaction Foundation
Reaching target and beyond - a wonderful result
With the charitable warmth of so many, Finnan's Gift reached the $300,000 target and the crucial medical equipment for the RCH cardiology department is now in operation at the hospital. This is a phenomenal achievement, and we are so grateful to everyone for helping us reach this goal.
We will now continue honouring the legacy of our beautiful son Finnan by creating an ongoing fund to support the doctors, surgeons, specialists and nurses who assisted with Finnan’s care.
Each year on Finnan’s birthday, we will make a grant to a department of the hospital, so please continue to support Finnan’s Gift and know that your donations will make a lasting difference to the patients at The Royal Children’s Hospital.
We will ensure to keep you up to date with the progress of the Finnan's Gift support fund through this site, and www.finnansgift.com.au.
Finnan’s Gift Appeal has achieved its original goal, but will continue to raise funds in Finnan's name in order to benefit other families. Click to donate.
