From car and bike enthusiasts to families with children, Wandin Rotary Custom Car and Bike Show brings together the community for a common cause – The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Foundation.
Over the past eight years, Wandin Rotary Custom Car and Bike Show has been showcasing pre-1985 model cars and motorbikes of all kinds every third Wednesday throughout the months of November, December, February and March.
Pat Cullen, the current Chair of Wandin Rotary’s Car Show Committee, described the event as, “the perfect family mid-week event with live music and a variety of food vans.”
However, this event is about more than just these unique vehicles.
To date, Wandin Rotary Club has raised $138,0000 for the RCH Foundation, helping to fund life-changing research, equipment and family-centred models of care.
Like many Rotarians the RCH holds a special place in Pat’s heart.
“About 17 years ago, I had a granddaughter born with esophageal atresia, where her esophagus wasn’t joined to her stomach. So, it had to be cut, stretched and joined. That happened when she was hours old,” Pat explained.
“And there are so many others in the Rotary with similar things with grandchildren, and so forth. Everyone’s always touched by the RCH,” he added.
Pat is incredibly proud of the impact he and his committee members have been able to make through Wandin Rotary’s Custom Car and Bike Show.
“There are lots of worthy causes in the world. When you turn the telly on, you see a new one every hour. But this is something close to home and something that’s real and effective. It means everything to the club to be supporting the RCH.”
