Main funding purpose: Haemophilia research
The story so far
In 1975, parents of haemophilia patients at the RCH got together and formed the Haemophilia Auxiliary, with the aim of raising funds to support the Department of Clinical Haematology and Oncology.
The Auxiliary supports research, staff costs and resourcing for the department. Originally formed in 1975, during the 1980s the Auxiliary lay dormant before being reformed in 2001 by Penny Suzuki, the mother of Jack, a haemophilia patient at the RCH.
The Auxiliary participates in several fundraising activities including raffles, dinner dances, film nights, fashion parades, snowball drives and collection tins. Members also hold stalls at the RCH and locally in the Ferntree Gully area. They also assist in the Gratitude Hub, and a band of knitters, sewers, cake bakers and crafty people provided merchandise for the stalls.
