Butterfly Auxiliary

Main funding purpose: the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The story so far

The Butterfly Auxiliary was formed in December 2023 by Julie Hartney. She was motivated by her background and personal experience working in the Social Work Department of the RCH.

Butterfly is a group of like minded volunteers who have compassion in making sick children better. Their main focus is to raise money for necessary medical equipment on the Butterfly Ward, the hospital’s NICU. They are also driven to assist in other areas of the hospital, with the overall aim of making sick kids better.

The name Butterfly Auxiliary was decided because of what butterflies represents – change and transformation, comfort, hope and positivity across cultures.

2023/2024 Auxiliary Report

Butterfly Auxiliary was formed on December 14th, 2023. We raise funds for Butterfly and have eight lovely volunteers who are all very passionate and love what they do. Our Christmas stalls at the RCH raised an enormous amount in our short time as an Auxiliary. We also spent time networking with the community and establishing our new Auxiliary. Our highlight has been our time behind stalls at the hospital, listening to families who have been going through a difficult time with empathy.
